Espresso Cup – The Concentrated Essence of Craftsmanship

Turn your morning espresso into a small, intense ritual. This handmade espresso cup from the Stanislavs Vilums x BloomVik collection is created for those who know that the greatest experiences are often found in the smallest details. It is not just a container for your coffee; it is a piece of tamed nature, shaped by masterful hands in the heart of Latvia.

Each cup is hand-thrown and born in the flames of a wood-fired kiln. Through a demanding reduction firing, where oxygen is removed from the kiln, the clay’s surface transforms into an iridescent black-silver finish. This is not a glaze, but the clay itself revealing its soul. The cup’s thick walls act as a thermal anchor, keeping your espresso warm and concentrating the aromas so every sip becomes a sensory experience.

"Small moments deserve great art. When you hold this cup, you feel the weight of history and a subtle scent of smoke and leather – proof of the open fire it was created from."

Why this espresso cup is unique:

  • Tactile beauty: The unglazed exterior is saturated with edible olive oil, providing an organic grip and a silky texture that develops its own personal patina over time.
  • Thermal stability: The thick-walled clay ensures your espresso or ristretto doesn’t cool down immediately, protecting the precious crema and delicate flavor notes.
  • No two cups are alike: The flames’ dance in the kiln is unpredictable. This means the color play between deep black and metallic silver is unique to your cup.
  • Versatile size (100 ml): Although designed for espresso, there is enough room for a cortado or macchiato without the cup feeling overcrowded.
  • Sustainable soul: Produced following centuries-old traditions in the Cukrasāta workshop, completely free from industrial chemicals or mass production.

The Man Behind the Fire: Stanislavs Vilums

Stanislavs Vilums (b. 1968) is a recognized master of Latvian folk craftsmanship. Since 1990, he has dedicated his life to mastering the rare reduction technique. His works are exhibited internationally, but their true purpose is to be used daily, reminding us of the connection between earth, fire, and our own senses.

Maintenance and Care

Since the cup is saturated with natural oil, it requires a little care to maintain its glow:

  1. Hand wash: We always recommend hand washing with warm water and mild soap.
  2. Dishwasher: Can be used at low temperatures, but avoid harsh chemicals that can dry out the clay.
  3. Refresh: If the exterior starts to look dull after many years of use, you can bring it back to life by polishing it with a drop of regular cooking oil.

Limited Edition

Each firing produces only a small number of cups, and the process cannot be rushed. This is your chance to own a unique piece of functional art that combines Latvian tradition with Nordic minimalism.

Order your handmade espresso cup today and elevate your coffee corner to a new level of authenticity.
