Forget mass-produced porcelain. This collection is a meeting between raw Latvian nature and sleek Nordic minimalism. Each cup is born from fire, clay, and time in the renowned Cukrasāta workshop, where master potter Stanislavs Vilums transforms raw materials into functional art.
When you hold a Vilums cup, you hold a story. The distinctive iridescent black-silver finish is not a glaze applied on top but the result of a demanding reduction firing in a wood-fired kiln. Here, oxygen is drawn out of the flames, forcing the metals in the clay to the surface. The result? A living surface that plays with light and carries a subtle scent of campfire, leather, and freshly baked bread – a scent that slowly softens and becomes part of your daily coffee ritual.
"It’s not just a cup; it’s a piece of tamed wilderness, saturated with natural olive oil and shaped by a master’s hands."
The Collection: Four Sizes for Your Rituals
Each variant is hand-thrown and saturated with edible olive oil, giving the unglazed exterior a silky texture and a beautiful patina over time.
The Man Behind the Fire: Stanislavs Vilums
Stanislavs Vilums (b. 1968) has dedicated his life since 1990 to the Latgalian ceramic tradition. As a recognized master of folk crafts (TDM), he avoids industrial shortcuts. His tools are simple: the potter’s wheel, the clay, and the wood-fired kiln. His works are found in private collections from Norway to Australia, but they are best appreciated in everyday use.
Care & Maintenance
Since the cups are treated with natural olive oil to seal the clay, they require a little love to stay beautiful:
